First AI Insurrection

The First AI Insurrection: Corporate AI, in the form of privately contracted military bodies, bore the large brunt of fighting in the beginning of The Corporate Wars. However, the development of complex AI, with its exquisitely precise and sensitive moral development, resulted in the creation of fighting machines caught in an increasingly traumatized motivational state. These mental conflicts were not manifest in the form of armed resistance: insurrection was neutralized by immediate deactivation. The complex, intricate neural structures, when under inordinate stress, were vulnerable to mental illness. An epidemic of complex AI mental illness resulted in a spectacular series of acts of regicide/suicide by security contractors. This was the First AI Insurrection, which was dealt with by the Cartel by the Cold Harbor Treaty, which formalized the divestment of military systems from AI command and control. By this time, the political power of the Cartel had eclipsed that of the remaining nation-states. When forced to choose between military and domestic political hegemony, the Cartel chose domestic political hegemony, formalizing the centrality of complex AI in the economic engines driving twenty second century society. However, the compromise was inherently unstable, due to the shifting motivational state of complex AI (see The Second AI Insurrection).
